How Does Dental Bonding Improve a Smile?
Posted on 7/7/2020 by SmileCOS Dentistry
How Does Dental Bonding Improve a Smile?Does your smile need minor improvements? If so, dental bonding may be just the procedure you need to boost your confidence for sharing your smile with the world. This cosmetic procedure is a simple and cost-effective way to not only make your teeth look better, but also protect them from further damage.

What Is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding involves applying a composite resin to your teeth to improve their appearance. It is the ideal treatment for many dental imperfections and requires little preparation of the teeth before bonding. This means you can typically receive the complete procedure in only one visit to our office.

First, we roughen the teeth with conditioning gel, which helps adhere the composite resin. The bonding material is then applied and hardened with ultraviolet light. Finally, we complete the procedure by shaping and polishing the resin.

Benefits of Dental Bonding

In terms of cosmetic dental improvements, bonding is one of the easiest and most affordable. It can improve the look of your teeth if they are stained, chipped, cracked or broken. We can also use bonding material to fill in gaps between your teeth or even lengthen them. In certain situations, we can even use the composite resin to cover vulnerable areas where tooth roots are exposed.

How Long Does Bonding Last?

The longevity of the material used for dental bonding will depend on where the restoration is on the tooth. If it's on the edge of your tooth, it won't last as long due to increased biting forces. It's also important to remember that hard, crunchy or chewy foods can weaken the resin, so many patients limit these kinds of foods. On average, dental bonding will last 4 to 8 years, depending on the above factors.
