Multiple Teeth Implants Colorado Springs CO

A digital rendering of multiple tooth implants at According to American College of Prosthodontists (ACP), roughly 36 million Americans are missing all of their teeth. This figure does not include the millions of people that are missing some of their teeth, but not all. For this reason, Andrew Miller, DDS and Francisco Darquea, DDS at SmileCOS Dentistry specialize in multiple tooth implants, which have revolutionized restorative dentistry.

Are You a Candidate for Multiple Tooth Implants?

Before you receive your implants, we must first determine that you are a suitable candidate. In general, anyone healthy enough to undergo a minor oral surgery should qualify for implant treatment. There must also be a significant amount of healthy jawbone underneath the open space created by the missing teeth.

Dental implants fuse to the bone through a process called osseointegration, which is a crucial part of treatment. If the bone is too thin or too soft, osseointegration will fail to occur. Luckily, people with inadequate bone may be able to undergo a preliminary bone graft, ultimately helping them qualify for implants.

Andrew Miller, DDS should be able to tell you whether or not implants are right for you during your initial consultation appointment. During this visit, we will perform a comprehensive exam using cutting-edge diagnostic tools. Sedation options might be discussed to keep your experience comfortable. Once we decide you are a suitable candidate, we can schedule your surgery.

Multiple Tooth Implant Procedure

Much like a single implant, the multiple tooth implant procedure is usually broken up into two or three appointments. During your first appointment, we will place your implants into the jawbone. The number of implants you receive depends on the number of missing teeth.

We usually place an implant for each missing tooth (and crown) of a fixed partial bridge, although it is possible to suspend a pontic, or false tooth, in between two posts. A full-arch appliance, such as an implant-retained denture or fixed complete bridge, can require anywhere from two to eight implants.

Once the implants are in place, we must wait for the process of osseointegration to finish before moving forward with treatment. The fusion process for multiple implant posts can be as short as six months or well over a year, depending on your body’s ability to heal.

At a follow-up appointment, Andrew Miller, DDS will place your final restoration, which is typically made from porcelain or zirconia. Both these materials are durable and possess the light-reflective properties of enamel, meaning your restoration will look and feel like your natural teeth.

Multiple Tooth Implants Vs. Conventional Bridges

A conventional bridge consists of two or more dental crowns linked together by pontic. To place a bridge, we must completely reshape the two teeth surrounding the open space, known as abutment teeth. Once the teeth are small enough to accommodate the size and shape of the crowns, we can permanently bond the bridge to the enamel.

Unfortunately, a conventional bridge can put your abutment teeth at risk for damage or decay. An implant-supported bridge relies on your underlying bone instead of the surrounding teeth. For this reason, implant-supported bridges provide better durability, longevity, and long-term oral health.

Mutiple Tooth Implants Vs. Complete Dentures

A complete denture is a removable appliance used to replace an entire arch of missing teeth. Because it is removable, a denture can cause a number of issues, from embarrassing slips to gum irritation. Full-arch implant restorations are permanently fixed, meaning you can speak, chew, and smile with confidence and comfort.

Without physical stimulation, your soft tissues and underlying bone can deteriorate or change shape, meaning your denture will need to be relined or replaced at frequent intervals. One of the biggest benefits of implants is that they prevent bone deterioration, providing you with a healthier jaw and more youthful facial appearance.
