Root Canal Colorado Springs CO

Diagram of a root canal at SmileCOS Dentistry in Colorado Springs. When you hear the word root canal, do you shiver in fear? At SmileCOS Dentistry, we do not want you to feel that way. Root canals help save your natural tooth, which is always our goal. Andrew Miller, DDS and Francisco Darquea, DDS offer a gentle and effective way to give root canals that do not cause excessive pain or cause fear of the dentist. Most importantly, the root canal helps save the life of your tooth.

Why are Root Canals Necessary?

If you have an infection that went down to your tooth’s roots, it is serious. Without a root canal, you would lose the tooth and require a dental bridge or dental implant. While these offer viable options to replace your tooth, nothing is better than keeping your teeth.

It would help if you had a root canal when the pulp or the tooth’s center has an infection. This can happen in a variety of ways, but the most common include decay and trauma. Any type of hole or crack in the tooth puts the integrity of the tooth’s roots at risk. We need to clean the roots to promote good oral health and save your tooth.

Signs That You Need a Root Canal in Colorado Springs

You will not be able to tell just by looking that you need a root canal, but if you experience excessive tooth pain when chewing, extreme pain with hot or cold temperatures, or excessive swelling in the gums, it could be a sign.

Our dentists can examine your mouth and tell right away if a root canal is an answer. Sometimes, though, you may not have any symptoms, yet we discover the infection upon examination. This is why your regular six-month dental checkups are essential. The earlier that we catch the infection in your mouth, the easier it is to treat and save your tooth.

The Root Canal Process

We can complete a root canal in one appointment. We start by numbing the area with an anesthetic. This way, you do not feel anything except minor pressure when we do the root canal. Next, we drill a hole in the tooth to gain access to the roots. Using root files, we clean the roots and then rinse the area out to remove all bacteria and debris. Finally, we fill the area and seal it up to prevent any further bacteria or debris from entering the area.

In serious cases, we may have to apply medication to the area to heal it. In these cases, we place a temporary dental filling to keep the area clean. After a week or so, we will remove the temporary filling and replace it with a permanent filling, giving you full use of your natural tooth once again.

We want to make the root canal process as simple as possible for you. Call SmileCOS Dentistry at (719) 394-3304 and talk to our supportive Colorado Springs dental staff about the procedure. We will walk you through the process, ensuring that you are comfortable with what we will do so that we can help save your natural tooth.
